How To Choose The Right Ski Wear For Oslo Ski Festival

Norwegians love to ski. Every year on the first Saturday in March, they celebrate the "Oslo Ski Festival". This is the second largest festival in Norway after the National Day.

Skiing is one of the most popular winter sports in the world. And while it might seem like a rather daunting task for beginners, once you get the hang of it, it’s an incredibly fun and rewarding experience.

If you also like skiing, or you are going to experience skiing, and lookin for some ski equipments and clothings, I think I can help you.

Here, we have prepared a selection strategy for winter ski equipment for your reference.

How to choose ski helmet

Safety certificate

The most important point in choosing a ski helmet is to buy a product that meets safety certification. It is recommended to choose from products that comply with the EU CE safety certification system or the American ASTM safety certification system.

The right size

When choosing a ski helmet, be sure to choose the right size for you. If you have the habit of wearing a wool cap inside the helmet, you can choose a slightly larger size, otherwise you can choose a slightly smaller size. It is recommended to go to the store to try it on in person when purchasing.

High ventilation

Highly ventilated ski helmets have enough vents to bring in cold air and expel heat and moisture. It is recommended to choose a ski helmet with self-adjusting vents, which can adjust the air flow instantly without interrupting the slide by flipping the adjustment knob. Closing the adjustment button can prevent snow leakage when gliding in snowy weather.

Light weight

The weight of the ski helmet itself is also an important determinant when choosing a ski helmet. For a ski helmet of the same size, try to choose a light weight one. The heavier the helmet, the more tiring it is to wear, which will affect the sliding quality.

How to Choose ski goggles

Why do we need to wear ski goggles instead of sunglasses when skiing? Because ski goggles give our eyes and face complete protection while skiing.

The ski goggles’ lens prevents damage to our eyes by protecting them from the sun's rays and filtering 100% of the UV rays.

Lens tint

In addition to appearanc, lens tinting allows your goggles to adapt to different light conditions.

Pink or yellow tint: terrain is more visible in bad weather as the lens generates better contrast.

Brown or gray tint: less color distortion when skiing in good weather.

Photochromic lenses

These lenses are made from pigments that react differently to different light intensities. Photochromic lenses adapt to the weather conditions (bad weather or sunny conditions) and can change from category 1 to 3.

Soft goggles are better

Snow goggles must also have strong impact resistance, because skiing is an extreme sport, and various accidents often occur.

Shock-resistant goggles that won't shatter or deform from common impacts. This flexibility, by the way, has the added benefit of being able to fit the face nicely and be very comfortable to wear.

How to Choose Ski jackets

Ski suits are divided into splits and one-pieces according to their appearance.

Split ski suits are the most common, with good convenience and strong matchability. Split ski suits are usually paired with high-waist overalls, which can prevent snow from entering.

The biggest advantage of the one-piece ski suit is to prevent snow from pouring in from the waist when you fall, but the convenience is greatly reduced.

As your outermost layer, ski jackets play a key role in keeping you comfortable and protected from the elements.

If you’ll be in bounds at the resort, your needs will be fairly simple: staying warm and dry.

Types of Ski Jacket

Insulated Ski Jackets

The majority of ski jackets you’ll find will be insulated. The level of insulation will be different per jacket and you’ll also find a wide variety of different features.

Synthetic Insulation Ski Jackets

Most skiwear is designed with synthetic polyester insulation. This material offers a balance of warmth and breathability. Synthetic insulation will outperform down in wet conditions.

Down Ski Jackets

Although down jackets are lightweight and very warm, they aren’t ideal for skiing. This is because they will lose their insulating properties when wet which means you could become very cold should you fall.

Water Resistant

Water resistant jackets will be treated with a coating that resists water and therefore gives improved durability in wet conditions.

Ski Jacket Breathability Ratings

How breathable a ski jacket is affects how comfortable you will be while skiing. While you may think you’ll be too cold to sweat on the slopes because of the cold temperatures, doing any kind of physical activity, including skiing, can make you sweat. Breathable garments allow minuscule molecules of perspiration to escape from the inside while stopping water (like snow) from the outside sinking in. Thus, making you feel less hot and clammy inside your gear.

Adjustable Hood

Adjustable hoods will allow you to ensure your hood fits perfectly.

Multiple Pockets

A jacket with lots of pockets will allow you to carry everything you need for a day on the slopes.

Fixed Snow Skirt

A Snow Skirt is a material panel that secures around the hips and prevents snow from getting in underneath your jacket.

The general principle is windproof, waterproof, breathable, warm and light. Because it is easy to sweat during skiing, it can be worn in multiple layers and easy to take off. It is best to have elastic bands on the cuffs, hem, and trousers of the coat to prevent wind and snow.
